While scrolling through TikTok the other day, I found myself captivated by @jauncydev‘s dog-breeds-reimagined-as-people spoof videos because they were SO accurate. I immediately reached out to the creator, Jonny Devaney, to learn more.
Devaney, a 25-year-old recent college graduate and full-time photographer and videographer, lives with his family in Ottawa, Canada. It’s thanks to his mom that these hilarious videos have come to be: She owns her own dog walking business, so, he explains, “on any given day, I’m hanging out with between 10-15 dogs.”
“I love dogs and am around them all the time so I know a lot about different breeds,” he wrote in an email. “So I thought, ‘What if dog breeds were people?’ I filmed it and thought it was funny so I posted it.”
Since then, his dog breed videos—some featuring his own dog, Thor, a 3-year-old Samoyed his mother rescued—have amassed over 40 million views on TikTok. Devaney wrote he “had no idea [the videos] would resonate this well with people” and thinks they hit home because dogs “are such a huge part of our lives so a lot of people could relate to the jokes I was making because they could see their dog doing exactly that.”
We’ll let the videos do the talking from here!
