The Silky Terrier originated in Australia when breeders crossed their native Australian terriers with Yorkshire terriers that they imported in the late 1800’s. An actual breed standard wasn’t really established until 1926, but these pint-sized pups quickly became popular with terrier-adoring crowd.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), this breed is quick and energetic, so they’re best for a family that can keep up with those high spirits. Between their charming personalities and truly lovely locks, these pups make a wonderful addition to any family. Silky Terrier Name Advice
If you’re having trouble deciding, keep in mind that great Silky terrier names can come from many different sources of inspiration, such as your favorite animals, songs, celebrities, your favorite novel, or even dog breed history. For example, your puppy might sport a cute animal name like Bunny or a literature-themed moniker like Oliver.
Another consideration when choosing your Silky Terrier name? Dog training. This is of particular importance for puppies. When you’re teaching your new dog to respond to commands like sit, stay, or come, you’ll want to be sure their name isn’t a source of confusion. In other words, avoid puppy names that sound like a common dog training cue, such as “Bit,” which could easily be misheard as “sit.”
Of course, what matters most is that the dog name you choose rolls off your tongue. The best Silky terrier names will make you happy. We’re fans of the “backdoor test” for dog name selection. It’s pretty much what it sounds like: stand at the back door and call out your new dog‘s potential name. Saying “Cleo, it’s time for dinner!” or “Benny, leave it!” helps take the name out of your imagination and into reality.
