If you think you don’t have the time or skills to make homemade dog treats this recipe is for you. Our 2 ingredient baby food dog biscuit recipe is the perfect way to get started baking for your furry best friend. Because nothing says ‘I love you’ like homemade treats.
With two simple ingredients— jarred baby food and your flour of choice, homemade dog treats can be baking in your oven in just minutes. No special ingredients or techniques needed here! Just preheat the oven, mix together the two ingredients, roll out the dough (don’t have a rolling pin? Try a wine bottle!), use cookie cutters or just use a butter knife or pizza cutter to cut out squares, pop them on a baking sheet, and voila! You’re a dog chef.
This a recipe your dog will never tire of because jars of pureed baby foods come in such an amazing variety of all-natural flavors. And you can use a range of flours too. We used oat flour and butternut squash for the yellow treats, and raspberry-pear and all-purpose flour for the pink treats. You can also try some other options like whole wheat flour, or try a wheat free option like chickpea flour, coconut flour, oat flour, or brown rice flour. You can mix different flours too.

Another great plus to this homemade treat recipe is that it doesn’t make too many cookies at once so they won’t get stale before they get eaten. One batch of this recipe makes 8 dozen dog treats using our smallest cookie cutter. You can make larger cookies if you have a bigger dog, or just break them up at treat time. And if you’re never quite sure what to do with leftover pumpkin puree or applesauce when you’ve made a traditional dog cookie recipe, this will save on waste too.

For an extra crisp cookie, turn off the oven when cookies are done, but leave them to cool inside the oven to remove any excess moisture.

Tasting notes
Bea can’t decide which version tastes better so she wants 2 of each, just to be sure.
Homemade dog treats have no preservatives, which is great for your dog, but means they won’t last as long as store-bought options. Be sure and store your cookies in an airtight container, and use your cookies up within a week or two at most. The less moisture in your cookies, the longer they’ll last, so be sure and bake your cookies thoroughly for longer shelf life.
Dog treats are not a replacement for nutritionally balanced dog food. Treats should never make up more than 10% of your dog’s diet (though they might be the best part.)
